In the past, this was the old factory building of Dacheng No. 3 Factory; now, it is the location of Changzhou Textile Museum. The Changzhou Textile Museum showcases the history and civilisation of textiles and excellent textile art in China and abroad, and the story of the search for "Chang" in textiles is also presented here. Through old photographs, printing and dyeing, embroidery and other Changzhou textile "memories", it recreates the important position and urban characteristics of Changzhou in the history of China's modern textile industry.
By the ancient canal, with its green brick walls and grey tiled roofs, the former site of the Dacheng No. 3 Factory is like travelling through a time tunnel, with the atmosphere of Republican architecture.
There is the Changzhou Textile Museum and the Memorial Hall of Mulberry and Hemp Celebrities, which were built next to each other, with the former converted from an old factory building and the latter from a cotton warehouse. The Changzhou Textile Museum has a floor area of more than 6,000 square feet, displaying the ancient and modern textile history and civilization and excellent textile art fine clothing.
"The museum is the only textile-themed canal culture museum in Changzhou, which integrates history and culture, textile technology and art and fashion, and is a fashion landmark and humanities education base in Changzhou." Staff member Lu Jingxian introduced the Changzhou Textile Museum, which is divided into three venues, including the permanent exhibition hall, the temporary exhibition hall and the cultural and creative hall, to create an educational space, an artistic space and a social space respectively.
The Changzhou Textile Museum has a collection of more than 2,000 pieces, of which the permanent exhibition hall has a collection of more than 1,200 pieces, which is the largest exhibit area. The permanent pavilion is based on the theme of "The Art of Warp and Weft - A Journey through Time and Space", and cooperates with Donghua University to tell a comprehensive textile cultural experience from fibres to yarns, from fabrics to garments, from Chinese costumes through the ages to traditional costumes of various countries, from the Red Star shining on centuries of textiles to technological progress and civilizational evolution through physical collection, graphic compilation, heritage restoration, heirloom collection and global treasure hunting. The museum offers a comprehensive experience of textile culture, from fibre to yarn, from fabric to clothing, from Chinese dresses through the ages to the traditional dresses of various countries, from the Red Star shining through the centuries to the evolution of civilisation through technological progress. For example, the museum has a collection of old wedding dresses, which are over 100 years old and have witnessed the development of wedding dresses.
